The Berlingo has been taken to the new level with the launch of an all-new model variety . For a start there are 2 lengths offered (L1 and L2), although they are based on the same wheelbase. It is bigger dimensionally in every department, but one thing that remains similar is the selection of 2 diesel engines. Both are 1.6-litre, the maximum power outputs are 75hp and 90hp, and they are able of operating on 30 per cent biodiesel. The substitute is a 16-valve 1.6-litre, 90hp petrol unit for those looking to change to Liquid Petroleum Gas .
The front wheels are driven via a 5 speed manual transmission and the gearstick is dash-mounted. Disc brakes are fitted all-round and ABS is standard ,as is power steering. With a load bed 1,800mm long the Berlingo L1 comes with a 3.3m3 load area. Opt for an L2 with its 248mmlonger rear overhang and 2,050mm cargo bed and the figure increases to 3.7m3. Carrying capacity can be raised by specifying the folding Extenso front passenger seating. Load capacity is increased to 3.7m3 and 4.1m3 for the L1 and L2 respectively.
Gross carrying capacities are 625kg (L1), 750kg (L2) and a heavy-duty 850kg choice for the L1 models. Access to the cargo area is via twin asymmetrical back doors and there’s the option of solo or twin sliding side doors.
The all-new cab boasts a multitude of storage areas and the standard equipment on all models includes central locking, a trip computer , power front windows and internally adjustable door mirrors. LX trim adds remote locking and electric mirrors. The Extenso seating option includes a centre ‘occasional’ seat with a large storage cubby underneath.
New Berlingo has the same warranty as the First and the HDi engines require an oil change every 12,500 miles.
